Jeff Smith has been writing top notch songs, and performing solo and in rock bands as long as he can remember. His most recent release, “Up at the Late Night Moon” took him in a more acoustic direction which led him to his current collaboration with Sherry Stewart. They perform under the name “Sunny@Midnight” which some observers have noted might be reflective of their personalities.
Sherry is an award winning songwriter, and sings like a bird, Her main “axe” is a mandolin. Smith is a dynamic force on all kinds of guitars, and continues to have his original songs placed on television shows like “Young Sheldon” and “Army Wives”, as well as in European ad campaigns and in popular “soaps’.
Sunny@Midnight performs as a quartet on this night which includes their collaborators and hard working rhythm section of John Werntz on electric upright bass and Ron Goad on percussion and back up vocals. The sound they make as a quartet incorporates Smith’s bluesy grooves, his point of view character driven lyrics and Stewart’s sparkling descriptions of dreams, nature and home.
Somehow it all swings. This is music as entertainment.
