Week 7 of our Music For Dessert series features violinist Melanie Bates. Bates’ passion is educating the community on the history, impact, and repertoire of Black classical musicians. The remarkable contributions of Black classical musicians has historically been suppressed. Audiences will learn about the lives of musicians such as Florence Price, Joseph Bologne, Clarence Cameron White, and Scott Joplin and be introduced to their repertoire through the violin.
The concert is for in-person audiences and those wishing to livestream the concert from home. No refreshments are served. Concert will be 45-60 minutes.
Funding for Melanie the Violinist’s Black Musician Academy has been made possible by The Puffin Foundation and Awesome Foundation DC.
